Temple Run 2 is one of my favorite running game on android. I love the graphics, the feeling of running, the exciting that the game brings to me. I've played the game for a while, so I decided to write this article for those who like the game as I like.
General hints and tips For Temple Run 2
Pickups
They're items you'll encounter on your run. You must jump to reach them.Check it out!
-Coin Magnet - Attract coins to your runner for a short duration. (very useful)
-Shield - Your runner will survive one obstacle if hit for a short duration.
-Boost - Your runner will gain invincibility and run faster for a short duration. (also helpful)
-Gem - Add a gem to your inventory. These are used to buy all sorts of nice things, chiefly the 'Save Me'.
-Artifact - Random artifact to add to your collections.
Powerups
You could assign one powerup to your runner. During the run your powerup gauge will fill when you collect coins. When your gauge is full, you might activate your powerup by double-tapping the screen. For the most majority of runs I recommended using the magnet powerup, which will allow you to collect more coins to buy upgrades. As soon as you hit Level 5 I recommended using the magnet as your default powerup.Shield - Helps protect you from obstacles (You start with this)
Coin Bonus - Instant 50 coin bonus (Buy Barry Bones to unlock)
Boost - Engages Boost instantly (Buy Scarlett Fox to unlock)
Score Bonus - Instant 500 point bonus (Buy Karma Lee to unlock)
Coin Magnet - Engages Coin Magnet instantly (unlocked at level 5)
Gem Bonus - Instant 2 gem bonus (unlocked at level 9)
Bolt - Engages Bolt Power instantly (Buy Usain Bolt to unlock - $0.99 real money - don't bother)
Ability Upgrades
Upgrade your abilities can be very handy. You could upgrade each ability five times, with each level costing more coins. Most of your upgrades should center around Coin Value and Coin Magnet. Put at least one in to Save Me. Boost Distance, Power Meter, and Pickup Spawn upgrades are also nice. You could completely ignore Shield Duration, Head Start, Score Multiplier, and Bolt Distance for the purposes of this guide; they either don't directly or efficiently help with objectives or cost more than you would save with their use.Coin Value

Bolt Distance
Unlocks when you purchase Bolt Usain (Costs US$0.99 - it is not necessary, don't bother)Player Levels
Player levels are not a huge factor in the game. You gain levels as you complete objectives. I believe there are 10 total. When you level up you gain access to higher tier powerups. The most important ones will be available to you fairly early, making leveling up a non-factor. What's more important is the bonus to score multiplier for completing objectives. Your multiplier should increase by 1 every time you complete an objective. The multiplier is what makes scoring millions of points rather easy.Controls
Swipe up - JumpYou're going to have to jump a lot in this game to collect items and avoid obstacles. You won't need to worry about jumping in the mine or on the river. Avoid jumping over horizontal flames; sliding under them will avoid them 100% of the time.
Swipe down - Slide/Duck
Use this to get underneath obstacles like overhangs and horizontal flame jets.
Swipe Left/Right - Turn
When you get to a sharp 90 degree turn or a T junction you need to swipe in the direction you want to go. Not too early or you'll trip and not too late or you'll die. You'll get a feel for the timing as you play.
Tilt Left/Right - Collect coins/Avoid Obstacles/Choose path
You'll be tilting your phone a lot to collect coins and avoid some obstacles. Tilting in the mine or river environment will allow you to choose a direction when you encounter a fork in your path. Also, in the mine, you must tilt your cart onto two wheels if half the track is out on either side.
Double tap - Activate Power
Once the yellow meter on the top left of the screen is full you can activate your special power. Activate it often, as the meter fills only if it isn't already full. 95% of the time you'll probably be using the magnet power to increase your coin count.
Environments
Here's just a list of the five environments in the game with some special caveats, if any.Stone Path - Standard environment. All controls used.
Forest - Standard environment. All controls used.
River - You'll be tilting a lot. Take care not to tilt too much around bends or when there's a rock up ahead. Your runner doesn't move side to side as fast here.
Mine - Be careful when the track splits or gives out on a side. There will sometimes be coins that'll tempt you to crash.
Wooden Planks - My favorite environment. No tilting necessary! Coins are much harder to miss.
Note on bugs:
1. At the time of writing this guide there were a few known bugs. First, some achievements fail to unlock even after completing the related objective. The in-game achievement list would list it as completed, but it would be locked on the Xbox Live achievement lists. There was no confirmed cause and no known fix aside from reinstalling the game. Your author encountered this bug when Archaeology 101 did not unlock. Although this game has received updates around the time of publishing, it could not be confirmed if this bug was fixed.2. There was a rather annoying bug that was fixed with an update around the time this guide was published. Essentially the game would send you to the Temple Run 2 marketplace page and ask you to review it AFTER EVERY RUN. EVERY FREAKING RUN. Be glad this is fixed.
3. Some members of the community have pointed out that you need an active internet connection to unlock achievements. If you complete some objectives offline then the related achievements won't unlock until the next time you have an active internet connection while playing the game.
